A day after a > statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Rajasthan’s Dudu area was found scribbled with warnings of an attack on the Republic Day, the Indian Air Force shot down “a balloon-shaped object” in Rajasthan’s Barmer area on Tuesday.
“Today [on Tuesday] an unidentified balloon-shaped object was picked up by the IAF radar. An IAF fighter was launched intercepted the object and brought it down,” sources in the IAF said.
However, investigations were under way to identify the object, the sources said.
The Barmer police obtained some metal pieces which were sent for identification.
According to PTI, defence sources said the object was likely to be a meteorological balloon.
Police said people of Gugardi and Panavara villages under Pachpadra Thana area heard the defeaning sound blasts in about five km radius.
Quoting Manoj Singh, an eyewitness, police said the blast sound was heard five times and something fell down after an aircraft flew by.
