Haryana Governor calls for equal rights to girl child

Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia on Tuesday exhorted the people to change their mind-set about the girl child and provide equal rights to them.

Presiding over a meeting of the Haryana State Council for Child Welfare at Raj Bhavan here, Mr. Pahadia also urged the voluntary organisations to come forward and help the destitute children.

Council vice-chairperson Shanti Pahadia, the wife of the Governor, also launched the website www.childwelfarecouncilharyana.com . The website will have all details pertaining to adoption of children and other activities of the Council.

Mr. Pahadia, who is also the Council Chairman, said it was making persistent efforts for protection of abandoned children and 43 of them , in the age group of 15 days to seven years, had been kept at Shishu Grah in Panchkula Sector 15.

He further disclosed that a three-year-old girl had been adopted by an NRI couple of Canada. The girl was found abandoned two years ago in Gurgaon, he added.

Ms. Pahadia asked the Council officials to impart basic education to the children during their stay with them. Apart from this, special attention should be paid towards their health, she added.

Council Secretary Indu Dahiya said that apart from implementing various child welfare schemes, it was also running nine drug addiction centres at Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Sirsa, Rewari, Narnaul, Faridabad and Gurgaon.

Besides, eight Anganwari Training Centres, 417 crèches, 25 children libraries, 10 evening schools, 21 Bal Bhavans and 27 Mini Bal Bhavans were being run across the State.
