Gujarat government on Saturday said it was willing to earmark 20 hectares of land in Kathwada near here for setting up an apparel park exclusively for State garment manufacturers.
“The textile and garment sector has grown manifold in the last few years. For enhancing manufacturers’ participation in this segment, government is willing to earmark 20 hectares of land owned by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in Kathwada for setting up an apparel park,” State Industry Minister Saurabh Patel said.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of Gujarat Garment Manufacturing Association (GGMA) organised national garment fair here.
Mr. Patel urged the garment manufacturers to set up centre of excellence at such garment parks for creation of skilled workforce for the sector and also organise quality exhibitions for attracting overseas investments.
“The government has allotted us 59 lakh square metres of land at Old Mill area in Rakhiyal, for setting up an apparel park for garment manufacturers but due to litigation the land is still not available,” president GGMA Vijay Purohit told reporters on the sidelines of the garment fair.
As per GGMA estimates there are close to 5,000 small and big garment manufacturing units in the State.
