Goa Minister detained at Mumbai airport

The customs officials detained Goa Education Minister Atanasio Monseratte at the Mumbai airport here on Saturday morning after he was allegedly found carrying huge amount of unaccounted foreign currency, official sources said.

The Minister, who was planning to go abroad, had Rs. 1 crore in foreign currency. He was also allegedly carrying Rs. 25 lakh in Indian currency. Mr. Monseratte was intercepted by the customs officials at around 4 a.m. and later detained. In 2008, the Minister's son Rohit Monseratte was arrested on charges of raping a minor German girl.
