Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has called for “quality research” in the fields such as technology, economics and medical sciences to facilitate new advances which he said would benefit the State and create more opportunities for the younger generation.
Laying the foundation stone for a new building of the Commerce Faculty at Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur on Sunday, Mr. Gehlot said the university should take up research activities in various fields to improve the standards of education and benefit the people at large.
Mr. Gehlot praised the Mohanlal Sukhadia University for selecting as many as 70 students belonging to Scheduled Castes as research scholars this year. He said the university should also make regular appointments of faculty members to ensure continuity of a healthy academic atmosphere.
“The inclination of students to join the commerce stream reflects the success of new economic policies implemented in the country. These policies enabled us to withstand the recent global economic crisis,” said Mr. Gehlot.
The Chief Minister said the State Government was sensitive to the needs for progress of technical education and was taking steps for bringing the engineering colleges “on par with the Indian Institutes of Technology”.
Union Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister C.P. Joshi and newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Prof. I.V. Trivedi, also attended the function.
