SRINAGAR: Fresh snowfall in the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday slowed the life again, hitting road and air traffic.
The snowfall started in the early hours and continued intermittently all through the day. The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was closed, and many flights were cancelled.
On an assessment from the Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), the government has issued an avalanche warning for the hilly areas of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Tangmarg and Khilanmarg in the Gulmarg sector and the higher reaches and Kargil in the frontier region of Ladakh.
“People living in these areas have been requested to take precautions and not to venture on steep slopes. The warning is valid for the next 24 hours,” an official said.
Kashmir University has suspended classes till January 29.
The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission said it would announce fresh dates for Kashmir candidates who were unable to reach Jammu to appear for interviews.
