With just nine of its 35 districts left unaffected by swine flu and the number of people testing positive on the rise, the situation in Maharashtra remains grim.
“The situation is not ideal. I am not happy at all,” Maharashtra Health Secretary Sharvari Gokhale told the media on Friday. Till date, 77 people have succumbed to the A(H1N1) virus in the State. Nineteen people are on ventilator.
On Thursday, 13,434 were screened for the flu across the State, 416 were administered Tamiflu, 28 tested positive, and 106 were hospitalised.
Three deaths were reported from Ahmednagar district and Pune on Thursday.
Ms. Gokhale said the administration was doing the utmost to spread awareness in rural areas and to ensure that the medicines did not run out. “Beyond that what do you do?” she said.
The authorities have also decided to administer Tamiflu to pregnant women.
