Mumbai: Unit-II of the Crime Branch on Thursday arrested five accused who stole imported plastic beans, which were to be used to fill bean bags worth Rs. 26 lakh, from Jawahar Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).

Shakun Polymers in Vadodara, Gujarat, had imported the plastic beans worth Rs. 26 lakh from Singapore to JNPT and a transport agency was to move the imported goods to Gujarat. When the goods did not reach their destination, an official from the company approached the JNPT police.

“We interrogated the owner of the transport agency who gave us the details of the driver in charge of transporting the consignment. With the help of the Call Details Record (CDR), we traced the driver to Gujarat and nabbed him,” the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Nitin Kausdikar, said.

The arrested driver was identified as Ramkapil Mativar Chaudhary, and his associates, Abdul Mabud Safiullah Chaudhary alias Mullah (63), Yusuf Samsher Khan (52), Sukhsagar Ramdhari Bind (45), and Mohammad Umer Mohammad Jhuber Qureshi (27), were subsequently traced and arrested.

The main accused, Chaudhary, was using a fake driving license, in the name of Santosh Ramkishor Singh.
