People of Bishara village in Dadri, where the lynching of Mohammed Akhlaq over rumours of cow slaughter happened, agitated on Tuesday after a youth committed suicide in the morning.

Jayprakash (24) reportedly committed suicide due to domestic trouble. However, villagers alleged that the police had been harassing Jayprakash in connection with Akhlaq’s murder.

Police, however, said: His name doesn’t figure anywhere in the list of suspects or accused. We didn’t harass him at all. His death is nowhere linked with the investigation of lynching.”

The police also said they were probing the death and that his body would be sent for post mortem.

The >Uttar Pradesh police had earlier identified Vishal and his friends Shubham and Rupendra as the miscreants who made the announcement about beef being stored at Akhlaq’s home from the local temple in Bishara last week. Akhlaq was lynched by a frenzied mob that barged into his house a little later.

Akhlaq’s wife is still living in the village.
