The Rajasthan Government's Cooperative Department intends to extend the crop loan facility to 8.56 lakh new Kisan Credit Card holders across the State during this month in an attempt to widen the reach of the scheme aimed at benefiting small and marginal farmers.
Principal Cooperative Secretary R. K. Meena said at a video-conference with the district-level cooperative institutions here on Tuesday that the target should be achieved by associating all deserving farmers with the scheme by April 30. He said the farmers who had not benefited earlier should be identified and encouraged to join this time.
Mr. Meena emphasised the need for effective monitoring of transportation of wheat supplied under the public distribution system and said the arrangement for carrying the foodgrain from the Food Corporation of India's godowns to the distribution centres should be improved.
According to an official release here, Cooperative Societies Registrar Mukesh Sharma gave instructions to the district-level cooperative institutions to submit proposals to the Apex Bank for converting the short-term loans into medium term in the areas affected by drought.
