A district court here on Wednesday issued fresh summons to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in a case relating to alleged derogatory remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Manjula Sarkar issued fresh summons to Mr. Dutt to personally appear before the court on July six next after he failed to present himself before it today despite an earlier notice issued on May 24, prosecution sources said.

Earlier, on May 24 last the then CJM Anirudh Kumar Tiwari had sought the help of Mumbai police Commissioner for getting the court summons served to Mr. Dutt in the case.

During an election rally at the K P College ground here during last Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Dutt, the then General Secretary of Samajwadi Party (SP), imitating his famous reel character “Munna Bhai” had made certain comments on the UP CM and the BSP supremo offering to give her “jadu ki jhappi” (magical hug).

The district administration had taken the comments seriously and filed a case against Mr. Dutt.

A notice was also served to him for violation of model code of conduct.
