Court: how come Pappu Yadav hasn't been arrested?

August 07, 2010 02:15 am | Updated November 05, 2016 06:05 am IST - New Delhi:

The Supreme Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Bihar police to arrest forthwith the former Rashtriya Janata Dal MP, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, whose bail it cancelled on May 3.

Pappu Yadav was awarded the life sentence in the CPI(M) leader Ajit Sarkar murder case. On May 3, a Bench of Justices Markandey Katju and A.K. Patnaik cancelled his bail and directed him to surrender.

Dismissing his petition seeking a review of this order, the Bench said: “We are surprised that despite the cancellation of bail, the accused has neither surrendered nor has he been taken into custody. We have carefully gone through the review petition and the connected papers as also the application for exemption from surrendering. We do not find any merit therein and they are dismissed accordingly.”

The Bench directed the CBI and the Bihar Director-General of police to execute its May 3 order and send a compliance report within four weeks.
