Constable shot dead near CM’s residence in UP

A constable deployed as security guard of an officer on special duty to the Chief Minister was shot dead by unidentified assailants barely a few metres away from Mayawati’s residence in Hazratganj area, police said here today.

Ramlal Gautam (57), who was deployed in the security of CM’s OSD Chandra Prasad Bind, was shot at late Sunday night when he was going to his house in Dalibagh area after duty, they said.

Police said the constable, who was shot in his right temple, was rushed to nearby Shyama Prasad Mukherjee hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The assailants took away Ramlal’s carbine and 20 cartridges, they said.

The incident came to light when a few passers-by spotted Ramlal lying in a pool of blood near a cycle track.

Senior officers said old enmity might be the reason behind the murder.
