Congress performs well in panchayat polls

Congress has secured three zila parishads and is maintaining lead in remaining 30 others and 248 panchayat samitis in the elections held recently.

The ruling party on Monday won parishads of Sikar, Bharatpur and Kota districts, the state election commission spokesman said here.

Of the results declared till 1900 hours, in Sikar Zila Parishad, Congress had won 21 out of the 39 seats, BJP secured 17 and CPI-M one.

In Bhartpur, Congress won 24 out of 37, BJP 7, independents 5 and BSP one. In Kota, Congress won 13 out of 23, BJP 9 and Independent one.

Counting was taken up for 33 zila parishads and 248 panchayat samitis which went to polls in three phases on January 20, 29 and February 2.
