Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday asserted that the issue of a separate High Court for the State at Chandigarh was being considered by the Centre.
Addressing a press conference at the Haryana Congress Bhawan here, Mr. Hooda said that it was the State's legitimate right to have its own High Court at Chandigarh. He added that Union Law and Justice Minister V.Moily had also seconded this view.
Mr. Hooda further said that ways and means would be found to resolve the issue of jurisdiction.
Responding to the statement of his Punjab counterpart Parkash Singh Badal that a separate High Court for Haryana in Chandigarh would adversely affect the claim of Punjab on the capital city, the Chief Minister said that if Punjab was ready to shift its High Court outside the Union territory, Haryana would follow suit.
Mr. Hooda sharply flayed Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Parkash Chautala demand for statement opposing the setting up of a nuclear power plant in Fatehabad district on the grounds that the act would prove detrimental to people's health and agriculture.
Mr. Hooda said that this was absolutely baseless as nuclear plants were already functioning in many States in India. He reiterated that the setting up of the nuclear power plant would be in the interest of the State, people and the country.
Former INLD MLA from Badhra, Ranbir Singh Mandola joined the Congress with his supporters in the presence of Mr. Hooda and Haryana Congress unit chief Phool Chand Mullana.
