The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has written to the Chief Election Commissioner asking for action against two MPs of the Trinamool Congress including Union Minister of State for Shipping, Mukul Roy, for “gross and blatant violation” of the model code of conduct at public meetings in West Bengal’s Hooghly district.
Biman Bose, Secretary of the West Bengal State Committee of the CPI(M), in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner dated October 12, said that Mr. Roy and Trinamool Congress MP Subhendu Adhikari, while addressing a public meeting, demanded that certain CPI(M) leaders “must be beheaded and their heads displayed prominently at public places.”
The names of the 11 CPI(M) leaders so threatened have been listed in the letter. The letter also said that the two Trinamool Congress leaders publicly declared that “women members of the families of CPI(M) leaders and followers would be subjected to gang-rape, and that their houses would be burnt down.”
According to the letter, some of the cars in the convoys of the two leaders flashed red lights and Mr. Roy’s car even sported the National Flag, violating the model code of conduct. The letter also alleges that supporters of the Trinamool Congress attended the meeting armed with revolvers, guns, rifles and explosive devices “in order to create fear and panic among the people” of the area.
