The Maharashtra Secretariat would soon have an enhanced security cover, including bullet-proof walls, Home Minister R.R. Patil said on Tuesday.
A meeting was held between the Home and the Public Works departments to discuss a Rs.10-crore plan to upgrade the security of the Secretariat in south Mumbai.
One of the important issues under consideration was a bullet-proof wall around the premises.
Such walls had been already constructed for some buildings in the city.
The proposal would have to be prepared in detail and placed before the Cabinet, Mr. Patil added.
Controversy
Recently, there was a controversy over the makeover plan for the Secretariat with Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal wanting the contract to be given to a private company.
However, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was in favour of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) redeveloping it as part of the proposed makeover of the Nariman Point area.
