The Bombay High Court on Thursday granted bail to suspended IPS officer D.G. Vanzara in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case in which BJP president Amit Shah is also an accused.

However, Mr. Vanzara, who is accused in other fake encounter cases including that of Ishrat Jahan and Tulasiram Prajapati, will remain in jail until he gets bail in all cases. He has been asked to furnish a bail bond of Rs. 2 lakh.

The court cited grounds of parity, considering that other accused with similar roles in the case have already been granted bail.

He is currently lodged at the Sabarmati jail in Gujarat in the Ishrat Jahan case.

“Prima facie, there is evidence against him [Mr. Vanzara in the fake encounter case],” Justice Abhay Thipsay said.
