After earning all-round accolades for successfully organising the Prakash Parv to celebrate the 350th birth anniversary of the 10th Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh, the Bihar government is gearing up to organise the world’s longest human chain on January 21 to create awareness of the benefits of prohibition. The space agency ISRO has been approached by the State government to capture satellite images of the human chain.
The ambitious human chain will span a distance of 11,000 km with over two crore people joining their hands across the State.
The ruling Janata Dal (United) leaders held a meeting on Saturday to chalk about the strategy “to make the event as successful as the recently-held Prakash Parv”. Earlier, it was decided that the human chain would cover 5,000 km but the government revised the length to 11,000 km.
“The timing has not been finalised, but the human chain will be formed for a span within half-an-hour sometime in the forenoon,” a top official told The Hindu . “Drones and helicopters will be pressed into service in the districts to capture the images of the human chain. ISRO too has also been approached by the government to capture satellite images,” he said. As per a rough estimate around 2,000 people could hold each other’s hand in one kilometre radius.
Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh said, “The human chain will not be organised for the sake of any world record but to raise awareness of prohibition, and also to impress upon the neighbouring States to implement the same.”
