After proving to be an effective opposition force in Parliament, the Left parties on Tuesday said that they would work for the defeat of the BJP in the coming Bihar elections.

At a joint press conference, leaders of the CPI(M) and the CPI said they were yet to field candidates for the Bihar elections but had agreed to work together to defeat the BJP.

“We want to defeat communal forces,” said CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. “We want to strengthen the Left’s participation in Bihar and the priority is to defeat the BJP.”
