Assam Rifles soldiers for Haiti

The Government of India has decided to send a group of Assam Rifles soldiers as part of a police unit to Haiti under the aegis of the United Nations mission, keeping in view of the good work done by the paramilitary force in the past, Home Secretary G.K. Pillai said on Saturday.

He was speaking after reviewing a special attestation parade held at the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School here to mark the 175th anniversary the force.

Mr. Pillai said the Centre was closely monitoring the law and order situation in the northeast, which was quite disturbed.

“The government of India had invited rebel groups for peace dialogue which has proved very useful is maintaining peace and tranquillity in the area.”

Assam Rifles Director-General Lt Gen Karan Singh Yadava and General Officer Commanding 3 Corps of the Army Lt Gen N.K. Singh were present. The parade was followed by a display and performance of para-motors, hot air ballooning.
