A 38-year-old woman, an American national who had come to the city to meet a person she had befriended on a social networking website, was found dead in her host’s flat here on Sunday.

‘No marks or injuries’

The police have found no marks or injuries on her body, but are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the cause of the death.

Kathleen Mary O’ Brien arrived in Kolkata on October 7 from Tokyo to meet Rohan Prakash Yellore, whom she had befriended on the website Facebook, said Supratim Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner (South) of the city police.

Two days ago she left the hotel she had put up in and moved to Mr. Yellore’s apartment in Hindustan Park, where he lives with his parents.

There were reports that she did so as she had run out of money.

At around 7.45 a.m. on Sunday, the maid found Ms. O’ Brien’s body on the bathroom floor.

“Since there are no injuries on the body, it is believed that she may have died of a cardiac arrest, but we are waiting for the post-mortem report before we rule out any foul play,” Jawed Shamim, Joint-Commissioner (headquarters) of Kolkata Police, said.
