Alert loco pilot averts major collision near Wardha

An alert loco pilot of Chennai-Chhapra Ganga Kaveri Express has averted a major collision on the track at Bhugaon station near Wardah, official sources said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday when Ganga Kaveri was fast approaching Chitoda station and the driver noticed derailment of empty coal wagons on the track at Bhugaon station and he immediately applied emergency brakes and brought the train to a grinding halt, officials said.

The 12 empty wagons of a coal rake derailed while being unloaded. Due to this, the train movement was affected but now the track has been restored for traffic, Nagpur division, Central Railway PRO Y. K. Singh said on Monday.

Grand Trunk Express, Tamil Nadu Express, Secunderabad Rajdhani Express, Indore Express, Sampark Kranti Express were affected due to the incident, he added.
