July 15, 2010 01:36 pm | Updated 01:36 pm IST - Puducherry

Opposition AIADMK on Thursday demanded resignation of Union Minister of State for planning V. Narayanasamy owning responsiblity for Medical Council of India declining approval to the government medical college here, proposed to go on stream this academic year.

Speaking to reporters here, party local unit secretary A. Anbalagan MLA said Narayanasamy had assured during the poll campaign last year that he would ensure that the college would be started if elected and also that it would go on stream this year.

Nothing had happened since then and MCI had rejected approval for the college. Hence Narayanasamy should quit office and the Congress ministry led by V. Vaithilingam should also step down, he said.

He said AIADMK along with CPI, CPI(M) and some other parties, would stage a demonstration at the Head post office here tomorrow to condemn the government’s ‘failure’ to procure MCI approval for the medical college.
