The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Friday staged a sit-in demonstration and hunger strike to protest against the government’s alleged failure in solving the problem of infiltration.

The students’ body staged the protest in all the district and sub-divisional headquarters demanding that both the Centre and state government take immediate effective steps to resolve the long-standing problem of infiltration from across the border, AASU President and General Secretary Sankar Prasad Rai and Tapan Kumar Gogoi said.

The students’ body is also demanding the resolving of the illegal foreigners’ issue through implementation of the Assam Accord within a timeframe.

There was no report of any untoward incident during the sit-in demonstration and hunger-strike which ended at 4 pm, the leaders added.
