At least seven persons, including three militants, were killed in a gun battle between two militant outfits at Khowani village in central Assam’s Karbi Anglong district in the early hours of Friday.
Four civilians, three of them women, were also killed in the crossfire when Rengma Naga Hills Protection Force (RNHPF) attacked members of the Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT).
Police said it all started when KPLT militants raided the Rengma Naga village. They fired indiscriminately killing four civilians, including the village headman, and torched several houses.
Militants belonging to the Rengma Naga Hills Protection Force then launched a counter attack and killed three KPLT militants in a dense forest about five kilometres from the village, sources said. Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police Mugdhajyoti Mahanta told The Hindu that their bodies were yet to be recovered.
