Sixty alleged supporters and members of the outlawed Communist Party India (Maoist) surrendered to the police in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday.
“Impressed by Chhattisgarh’s surrender and rehabilitation policy for the Maoists, 60 Maoists surrendered in presence of senior police officials in Narayanpur today,” Narayanpur district police said in a statement.
Most of the Maoists and their supporters, who surrendered on Thursday, are the members of the Maoists’ militia and Dana Karanya Kisan Majdoor Sangh of the Maoists in Erakbhatti, Kohkametta, Kachchapal and Piddalpar area of Narayanpur.
“All of them were active in the Maoist organization for over seven to eight years. Many others will be encouraged to give up the path of violence after seeing such mass surrenders,” the police said.
