47 per cent voting in Gujarat civic body elections

In the first phase of civic elections in Gujarat, an average 47 per cent voting was registered in polls to six municipal bodies on Sunday, amid complaints of deletion of voters’ names , especially in Patel-dominated pockets.

As per the figures released by the State Election Commission, the average turnout in the six cities that went to the polls was around 47 per cent of the total of 9.5 million voters. The six cities where polling was held are Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.

In Ahmedabad, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, BJP president Amit Shah and party veteran L.K. Advani exercised their franchise.
