3 powerful IEDs recovered in Chhattisgarh

Security forces on Monday recovered three powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) suspected to have been planted by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.

The explosives, packed in steel containers, were found stealthily placed beneath the Kottacheru-Bhejji Road under Behjji Police Station, around 500km from here, a senior police official said over phone.

Major tragedy averted

While one IED weighed 8 kg, the two others were around 5kg each, he said, adding their timely detection averted a major attack on security personnel in Sukma, the State’s worst Maoist—hit district.

The recovery was made when a squad of CoBRA (Compact Battalion for Resolute Action) — an elite wing of CRPF — was carrying out an area domination operation on Kottacheru—Bhejji route, a hotbed of Naxal activities, the official said.

The explosive devices were immediately destroyed by a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, he added. - PTI
