Three infiltrators were killed in an ongoing operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara on Monday, taking the toll of militants to five.
“The Army has eliminated a fresh infiltration bid in Tanghdar sector. A total of five infiltrators were killed since Sunday. One soldier was also killed,” said Army’s Srinagar-based spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia.
Sources said the group of infiltrators were spotted on Sunday and were using the mountain ridges of Tanghdar to enter into the mainland valley. “The operation is in progress,” said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, several wings of the security agencies held a meeting in north Kashmir to review the “counter terrorist grid in the hinterland.”
The security review was attended by Lt. Gen. A.K. Bhatt, GOC Chinar Corps; Dilbagh Singh, DGP J&K; Maj. Gen. D.P. Pandey, GOC CIF(K); Swayam Prakash Pani, IGP Kashmir; and Brig D.R. Rai, Commander Rashtriya Rifles.
“During the deliberations, the aspects of sharing of intelligence, joint planning, situational awareness and joint operation were deliberated upon,” said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, a Hizbul Mujahideen spokesman on Monday said five militants who were killed in Bandipora on Friday belonged to the outfit and were locals.
“It was a group comprising five members and they got trapped in Sumlar area,” he said.
The Army had claimed they were foreigners. The Hizb spokesman said they were Hyder Ali from Brazul of Kulgam, Muhammad Umar from Shopian, Muhammad Sidiq from Bandipora, Mawiya from Kangan and Usman from Lolab.
