28 legislators suspended in Haryana

September 08, 2010 01:47 am | Updated 01:47 am IST - CHANDIGARH:

The Haryana Vidhan Sabha, which was adjourned sine die on Tuesday after a three-day session, witnessed uproarious scenes culminating in suspension of 28 Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLAs and one Shiromani Akali Dal legislator.

The INLD and Shiromani Akali Dal MLAs were demanding dismissal of the Minister of State for Home, Gopal Kanda, while alleging that a woman was raped in a car owned by a company of which the Minister was one of the directors. Speaker H.S. Chatha even adjourned the House thrice to restore order after the INLD MLAs rushed to the well of the House and shouted slogans.

Interestingly, all the INLD MLAs present, except for the Leader of the Opposition and INLD chief Om Parkash Chautala were suspended.

Two other INLD MLAs — Ajay Singh Chautala and Saroj More — escaped suspension as they were not present in the House.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced on the floor of the House that the land acquisition policy would be revised for the benefit of the farming community.

Replying to a call attention motion moved by Congress MLA Sampat Singh, Mr. Hooda said maximum compensation for the land acquired would be given to the farmers.

Mr. Hooda stated that during the erstwhile INLD regime, an award of Rs.160 crore was given to the farmers for land acquired for the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway project. However, his government had increased this amount to Rs.650 crore.
