In a gruesome accident, 15 persons were killed and three injured when two sports utility vehicles (SUVs) collided head-on near Balesar village in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan on Friday night.
The accident occurred when one of the SUVs, while trying to overtake another vehicle, hit the other SUV coming from the opposite direction. The drivers of both vehicles were among the four persons who died on the spot. Other victims, belonging to a single family, died on the way to the hospital, while one of the injured persons, put on ventilator, died on Saturday.
According to the police sources, villagers who heard the sound of collision rushed to the spot to help the victims and informed the police immediately. Balesar is situated 70 km away from Jodhpur.
One of the SUVs was carrying the members of a family who were returning to Jodhpur from Kalau village on the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer highway after attending a function.
The State government has sanctioned an assistance of Rs. 50,000 each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the next of kin of the deceased.
