100 Mahul residents detained

October 30, 2018 12:57 am | Updated 12:57 am IST - Mumbai:

Over 100 Mahul residents were detained at Ambedkar Nagar by the police on Monday for protesting on a road causing traffic disruption. They were demanding rehabilitation out of Mahul, which they claim is unfit for living, given the high levels of pollution from the nearby chemical plants and petrochemical refineries, along with the issue of it being far from offices and educational institutions.

Sushil Kamble, senior police inspector, Tilak Nagar, said, “We detained the residents because the protest was at a public place due to which other people faced inconvenience. We have no issues with their protest, but it has to be done in an orderly fashion.”
