10 killed in mini-bus accident in Uttarakhand

At least 10 people were killed and seven others injured when a mini-bus in which they were travelling fell into Alaknanda river in hilly Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, officials said here.

The accident occurred when the bus was going to Karnprayag from Gopeshwar. The bus driver lost control over the vehicle on a sharp turn near Kurela and it fell into the river killing eight persons on the spot, an official of Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre (DMMC) said.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where two more succumbed to their injuries.

The bus was carrying 30 passengers at the time of the mishap.

Senior administrative and police officials have rushed to the spot to supervise the search and rescue operation.
