Welcoming the Supreme Court judgement to hear the Rafale review petition based on documents published in The Hindu , the Opposition parties said that the government can no longer hide behind the cover of Official Secrets Act.

“The layers of corruption in the Rafale scam are now out in the open. The entire structure of lies built by PM Modi is in tatters. PM Modi used to hide behind a self-pronounced clean chit by SC. But today, the SC has demolished that lie of clean chit,” chief spokesperson of Congress Randeep Surjewala said in a series of tweets. Mr. Surjewala said that whether the government likes it or not, there will be investigations into all transactions during the Rafale air craft purchase.

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the BJP had been falsely claiming that they have been given a “clean chit” in the Rafale deal but the proofs are tumbling out one after another. He called Narendra Modi government the most corrupt and compromised government in India’s history.

“Modi and his govt have compromised national security for corruption and cronyism in an important defence deal. They tried to evade accountability, denied a JPC, hid price from CAG, tried to first mislead, then stall any hearing in Supreme Court. Important that culprits are booked,” Mr. Yechury said in a tweet.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati called for the resignation of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In a tweet in Hindi she said that the Modi government attempt to hide corruption in the Rafale deal under the cover of national security has failed. She has also demanded an apology from the Prime Minister for all the lies and misleading statements both inside and out of Parliament.

CPI leader D. Raja termed the verdict a slap on the face for the government.
