Govt. didn’t do its homework: Antony

The Centre failed to learn lessons from the past when it came to organising talks with Pakistan, the former Defence Minister said.

Former Defence Minister and Congress Working Committee member A.K. Antony on Sunday said the NSA-level talks between India and Pakistan scheduled from Monday in New Delhi had to be called off because people concerned did not do the homework.

Mr. Antony, who came to Karungapally near here to inaugurate the year-long birth centenary celebrations of the freedom fighter and Congress leader A. Pachan, told mediapersons that the government at the Centre failed to learn lessons from the past when it came to organising talks with Pakistan.

He said that after Partition the successive Congress governments had laid emphasis on unity and harmony.

But after the BJP came to power, deliberate attempts were being made to polarise people on communal lines, Mr. Antony alleged.

He said that in Kerala the political climate is in favour of the United Democratic Front.
