Now get SMS alert for cancelled trains

June 23, 2015 01:27 am | Updated 01:27 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Railways have begun sending SMS alert to passengers if the train they have booked tickets for is cancelled.

The move came following the fire accident at the Itarsi railway station on June 17, which led to the cancellation of 72 passenger and express trains, causing a lot of trouble to passengers.

The cancellation of trains on this route would continue till June 23. Last month, about 44 trains were cancelled due to the Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan.

“We commenced the SMS-based service from June 21. This will help the passengers make alternative arrangements,” said Anil Kumar Saxena, the spokesman for the Railway Ministry.

The software for the service has been developed by CRIS, the technological arm of the Railways.
