The fate of three Telugu Desam Party men who were kidnapped Monday evening by Maoists in G.K. Veedhi mandal of Visakha Agency in Andhra Pradesh was not known even as their friends and relatives ventured into the deep forest to locate them and to plead with their abductors to release them.

A group of about 40 Maoists, reportedly led by Chalapati, senior leader of the CPI (Maoist), abducted TDP mandal unit president Mamidi Balayya Padal, senior leader Vandalam Balayya and district committee member Mukkala Mahesh from their homes in Kothaguda village and left a letter demanding that the government drop plans to exploit bauxite in the Agency area.

Superintendent of Police Koya Praveen said on Wednesday that there was no information yet on the fate of the three kidnapped persons. The group of friends and relatives of the three abducted men returned from the forest unable to understand to where they were taken.
