The Telugu Desam Party leaders on July 15 met Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai, in one of the first meetings to reach out to like-minded parties to garner support to once again move a no-confidence motion against the Modi government for its failure to accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

TDP Lok Sabha floor leader Thota Narasimham and MP P. Ravindra Babu met Mr. Thackeray at his residence in Mumbai. Later they also met Nationalist Congress Party leaders.

CM sends letter

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has written an eight-page letter to all non-BJP and non-Congress parties and parliamentary party leaders to seek their support to their ongoing protest against the Modi government. The TDP MPs will be meeting leaders of other political parties soon with this letter.

Both Andhra Pradesh parties, the TDP and the YSR Congress, had earlier moved no-confidence motions during the Budget session of Parliament. Their protests had led to a complete washout of the session as the Lok Sabha Speaker refused to accept the motion.

Criticising what he called the “continued adamant attitude” of the BJP-led NDA government, Mr. Naidu has sought cooperation from the parties for once again moving the no-confidence motion.

List of complaints

In his letter, Mr. Naidu said six out of the eight infrastructure projects listed in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act remain a non-starter even after four years. He also claimed that division of assets and liabilities between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were yet to take place. Even the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in Delhi was not bifurcated and the special category status was denied to the State on “flimsy grounds”

“It is unfortunate to note that the BJP-led NDA government has not even respected its own election manifesto of 2014 relating to Seemandhra,” Mr. Naidu said in the letter. He also pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ignored his own promise made during his election campaigns in Tirupati and Nellore towns to accord special category status to the State for 10 years.

“The palpable reluctance and disinterest in implementing the assurances and promises by the BJP-led NDA government has led to severe hardships for the people of Andhra Pradesh,” he added.
