The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to interfere with its earlier order confirming the death sentence awarded to Nithari serial killer Surinder Koli for murdering 14-year-old Rimpa Haldar, one of his first victims, saying the case was “horrifying” and “barbaric”.
A Bench of Justices H.L. Dattu and Anil Dave dismissed the review petition holding there was no merit in it and also on the ground of delay in filing the petition.
Koli has also been awarded capital punishment by the trial court in three other cases of rape and murder of young women and children in Nithari village near Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
A total of 16 cases were registered against Koli between 2005 and 2006 at his employer businessman Moninder Singh Pandher’s house in Nithari. The remains of several missing children were found near the house.
A lower court ordered the death sentence to 42-year-old Koli, which was subsequently upheld by the Allahabad High Court and confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Koli had moved the Supreme Court against the judgment confirming the death sentence.
