The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought a response from the government on a PIL for an SIT probe into “deliberate inaction” and non-registration of FIR against senior advocates Indira Jaising, Anand Grover and the NGO Lawyers Collective after cancellation of licence to receive foreign funding.

Lawyers Collective reacted strongly in a press release also signed by Ms. Jaising. It alleged the development was “victimisation” owing to Ms. Jaising's stringent and public objection to the manner in which the sexual harassment complaint of a former apex court employee against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi was dealt with.

"Ms. Jaising was publicly vocal on issue of due process in in-house inquiry, the CJI ought to have recused himself from hearing the matter," the statement said.

On Wednesday, a Bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta issued notice on a petition filed by Lawyers Voice.

NGO’s version

The Lawyers Collective said “we strongly dispute any allegation of mis-utilisation of any funds”. The NGO denied receiving any foreign funding after its FCRA registration was cancelled on “false and illegal grounds.”
