New ISIS video clips on Internet

August 13, 2014 01:16 am | Updated April 21, 2016 04:12 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Amid reports alleging that over a dozen Indian nationals have joined the terrorist group, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), several video clips with Tamil, Urdu and Hindi subtitles have surfaced over the past couple of weeks through a popular video-sharing website inviting people to join its cause.

The latest set of three videos was uploaded last week, on the first anniversary of the Syrian rebels’ takeover of Minnigh airbase in the northern province of Aleppo last August. It exhorts young men with various skills and from different countries to join the outfit for the revival of the Caliphate.

In the video, an ISIS fighter of Canadian origin has been shown sharing his thoughts and asking people to join before the “doors are closed.” Claiming that needs of all the members are taken care of, he says the outfit needs fundraisers and people with different skills, such as technology, for building the Islamic State.

The video prepared by one “Al Isabah Media” group also shows the same recruit being killed in the Minnigh airbase attack.

4 Mumbaikars in group?

The videos have surfaced weeks after reports alleging that four young men from Mumbai have joined the jihadist group.

About a month ago, ISIS commander Ibrahim Awwad al-Badri had in a speech — released on the Internet — said that rights of the Muslims were being forcibly infringed upon in several countries, including India.

Indian intelligence and investigations agencies have taken cognisance of the video clips. “The contents have to be examined,” said an officer, adding that similar videos aimed at recruiting people for terrorist activities have been uploaded on the Internet in the recent past. Some of the video clips have shown Indian nationals purportedly joining terror outfits in Afghanistan.
