Suspended Aam Aadmi Party MP from Patiala, Dharamvira Gandhi, on Friday termed the recent Centre’s notification on prevention of cruelty to animals an attempt by the BJP to impinge on rights of people with different beliefs.
Mr. Gandhi told The Hindu that he would oppose in Parliament session the May 23 notification.
“The new rules issued under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act will make trading in cattle more difficult and animal husbandry business more difficult and unviable. I will raise this issue in Parliament and demand withdrawal of this notification,” said Mr. Gandhi.
The MP said the new rules would leave people dealing in slaughtering and those involved in leather business vulnerable.
“The latest notification of the Ministry of Environment shall pave the way for further atrocities on Dalits and Muslims,” he said.
Mr. Gandhi alleged that the BJP was encroaching on the powers of the States and attempting to destroy the federal structure.
