The Southern Naval Command launched a helicopter to rescue the crew members from the floating dock.

Two crew members of a grounded floating dock were rescued by the Indian Navy and handed over to the Coast Guard early morning on Tuesday.

Floating dock Al Fattan , which was bound for Abu Dhabi from Sabang in Indonesia, had run aground off the Thottapally beach in Alapuzha on Monday, with two of its crew stranded on board. At the request of the platform, the Southern Naval Command launched a helicopter — Advanced Light Helicopter — from its air squadron no. 322 for rescue.

Braving strong winds and inclement weather marked by heavy downpour, the helicopter rescued the crew of Al Fattan and brought them to the naval air station Garuda in Kochi.

They were later handed over to the Coast Guard for emigration and other formalities, said a Defence spokesperson.
