Narendra Modi’s wife Jashodaben escapes unhurt in Rajasthan road accident

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wife - Jashodaben - had a narrow escape when the car she was travelling in met with an accident on a National Highway in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan on Wednesday.

Her relative Basantbhai Modi, who was driving the car, was killed. Two other women and a security personnel were injured.

The family was returning from a wedding at Atru in Baran district, and were headed towards Unjha in Gujarat. Their car hit a trailer truck that was transporting iron rods near Begu on the Kota-Chittorgarh four-lane Highway. The accident happened when the trailer’s driver applied the brakes suddenly.

The car was completely destroyed in the accident. Its occupants were rushed to the Sanwaliyaji Government General Hospital in Chittorgarh for treatment.

Out of danger

While Ms. Jashodaben was out of danger, a woman relative and a security personnel suffered head injuries and were sent to a hospital in Udaipur.

The truck driver from Jharkhand has been held.
