Narasimha Rao sends breach of privilege agianst Congress’ Anand Sharma

BJP Rajya Sabha member G.V.L. Narasimha Rao has given a notice of breach of privilege against Congress leader Anand Sharma for allegedly misleading the House by making a false statement against Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel during the proceedings on December 18.

In a letter to Rajya Sabha Secretary General, Mr. Rao said during the proceedings in the Zero Hour on December 18, Mr. Goel had replied to the submissions made by Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad.

“When the House re-assembled after lunch to discuss the situation arising due to devastation caused in some States by cyclones ‘Gaja and Titli’, Shri Anand Sharma raising a point of order submitted that on checking the records, he found that morning while Leader of the Opposition was speaking about the privilege notices, Shri Vijay Goel took the name of Shri Rahul Gandhi, Congress President and a Member of the Lok Sabha and asked him to apologise,” said the letter.

Mr. Rao said the Congress’ MP also stated that by doing this and by mentioning the proceedings of the other House in Rajya Sabha, Mr. Goel had violated the rules of procedure and conduct of business in the Council of States.

The next day, Mr. Goel referred to the point of order and submitted that nowhere did he refer to Mr. Gandhi in his submissions made in the House on December 18 and the same had been documented correctly by the verbatim reporting service of the House and video footage of the proceedings, said Mr. Rao.
