Mumbai comes under thick dust cover

March 22, 2012 12:49 am | Updated 12:49 am IST - MUMBAI:

Mumbai woke up to an unusual morning on Wednesday – there was a thick dust cover over the city due to strong winds from Rajasthan.

The sand storm, originated across the Arabian Sea, picked up dust from the arid regions of Gujarat and Rajasthan and the winds led it to the city and nearby areas.

According to the India Meteorological Department here, “there is a dustcover enveloping the area because of a dust storm in Rajasthan. The winds are affecting parts of Gujarat and north of Mumbai.”

Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre (ACWC) V.K. Rajeev, however, said: “The dust storm is actually ‘trivial.'

There is no need for any panic; it will get settled by Wednesday evening or maximum by Thursday morning.”
