MNS corporator gets bail

December 04, 2012 12:11 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:04 pm IST - Mumbai:

A corporator belonging to the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, who was caught on camera brazenly assaulting an elderly contractor and employee of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation on Sunday for alleged ‘delay’ in the repair of a water pipeline, was briefly arrested, but was immediately released on bail.

Nitin Nikam, who repeatedly slapped and used foul language against Digambar Patil (65), was arrested on Monday morning by the Kolasewadi Police station in Kalyan (East).

Nikam was booked under Section 341 of the Indian Penal Code for wrongful restraint. Sources said that while Mr. Thackeray was upset over the incident, he defended the brutal assault. Mr. Nikam took a defiant stand, remarking that he resorted to the ‘MNS style of action’ to “teach the man [Mr. Patil] a lesson after sweet words did not do the trick.”
