Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday described his party's relationship with Dravida Munetra Kazagham (DMK) as one that has stood the test of time as the DMK chief M.K. Stalin called on his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

"Shri Stalin & senior members of the DMK, visited Sonia Ji in Delhi today, to wish her on her birthday. We had a warm & cordial meeting & discussed a range of issues. I look forward to continuing our dialogue and to strengthening our alliance, that has stood the test of time," tweeted Mr. Gandhi with photos where Mr Stalin was seen offering a bouquet to Ms. Gandhi and an angvastram (stole) to the Congress chief.

Mr. Stalin was accompanied by senior leaders included his sister and party MP Kanimozhi, former ministers A. Raja and T.R. Baalu.

DMK chief' courtesy call comes a day before the Opposition meet on Monday in Delhi where heavyweights like Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah will be in attendance.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has taken the lead in gathering all non-NDA partied to try and form a joint strategy ahead of the 2019 elections to take on the BJP.

CPI leaders like D. Raja and Sudhakar Reddy have confirmed their participation as they were allies of the Congress alliance (Mahakutumi) in the recently concluded Assembly polls in Telangana.

While CPI(M) will send their representative, it is still not clear whether Sitaram Yechury would be attending.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal too will be attending on Monday as previous such meetings either didn't invite Aam Admi Party or was represented by other office bearers.

BSP continues to keep a suspense as there is no confirmation yet on the participation of party chief Mayawati or any other leader representing her.
