A Major sustained injuries in a gunfight that has erupted in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday evening.
Preliminary reports suggest that security forces spotted militants at Kakapora when they were travelling in a vehicle.
Police said the militants opened fire at the security forces and fled towards New Colony, Kakapora, around 30 km away from Srinagar. The security forces have laid a siege to the area.
Two local militants of the Lashkar-e-Taiba are believed to have engaged the security forces in the gunfight.
Army’s Company Commander Major Kartik Manjal was hit by a bullet in the hand and was shifted to hospital.
Earlier in the day, two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in Sopore in north Kashmir.
